24 days of XMAS Challenge : Day 15

Day 15, can't believe it! Todays theme of the 24 day challenge is PRESENTS!
After yesterdays ornaments I decided to stay simple and keep to a classic design... the french!
I didn't want to use a typical sheer or pale pink base like i have been doing for this challenge but still wanted it to look neutral.

For the base I used Urban Outfitters - nude 5 2 coats. The french tip was done using Ruby Kisses - french white 2 coats. Stripes were done using Kiss - gold glitter striper two coats. Red bows were done using Kiss - red striper. Then to add my favorite thing... BLING I went over the bows on the thumb and ring finger with red rhinestone cabochons and in the center of all the bows are gold rhinestone cabochons, then finally Seche VITE - quick dry top coat.

Stay tuned because tomorrows theme is LIGHTS!

24 days of XMAS Challenge : Day 6

I cannot believe it is already day 6 of the 24 day challenge!  Christmas is almost here!
I thought i would get a jump start on this days challenge, so i bring to you my PENGUIN themed nails! For my inspiration I took a look at a book from my childhood, Mr. Poppers Penguins!

I'm pretty exhausted now so i'll just get right to it.
I used Sally Hansen - shell we dance (#160) for the base color. I then made half moons at the tops of my nails using Love & beauty - royal 2 coats. It was a little to bright and I was looking for a softer ore ice like effect so i put 1 coat of O.P.I. - kyoto pearl! it was the most beautiful thing, i almost stopped right there!
For the penguins and Mr. Popper I used Kiss - white striper, Kiss - black striper, and Nail Star - orange. It was important that Mr. P and the penguins shared the same 3 colors like the book,  although I used orange in place of the red.  I then mad a line at the top of the blue semi circle using Nail Star - metallic blue, which is the same blue i used to illustrate the feathers, as seen on the cover of the book.
For the Final touches I used the thing i love most and have greatly missed over the last several designs.. NAIL ART BEADS! I placed 20+ on each nail to create a sort of polka dot effect. The beads I used were clear which enhanced the design by reflecting the light as well as the paint beneath. Then finally 2 thick coats of Seche Vite - quick dry top coat to secure the beads. It really just glows! I really had a lot of fun doing this design and i look forward to Day 7 : Gingerbread Men!

24 days of XMAS Challenge : Day 4

It's day 4 of the 24 day x-mas challenge, and todays theme is SNOWMAN (men) :)
I'm posting this on the early side because otherwise I wont be able to do my snowmen nails till late late tomorrow night, and I might as well make use of my night owl habits! As you will see, I was inspired by a still from Frosty The Snowman, although i kept to the traditional lump of coal and carrot face, the color background and framing are similar. I thought this was a perfect opportunity to use a base color other than blue, red and green, the typical December holiday palette, which so happen to be the three colors I were least often. I thought the thistle color was really pretty, but i wanted more contrast to make my snowmen POP! I also thought my snowmen should wear bow ties instead of scarves because i thought it would be cuter!

still from Frosty The Snowman (1969)

                                                 1                    2                   3                 4              5

Okay, first off (post B.C.) i used Love & Beauty - lavendar, the amazing thing about this, was, it was a one coater! unvelievable! I mean i know there are better nail polishes out there, but L&B seriously is one of my favorite brands, so cheap, nice colors, and not too thin!
ANYWAYS... Next, for the snowmen: Ruby Kisses - french white, coal and hat Ruby Kisses - black eutopia,  carrot Love & Beauty - orange, shading on the carrot I mixed L&B- orange with Orly - bus stop crimson (weird name), and the highlights for the eyes, carrot and hat I mixed Ruby Kisses - french white with Ruby Kisses - black eutopia for various grey tones.

For each of the bow ties i wanted something different (it took every ounce of me to not just bedazzle the crap out of these little guys, can't over do it!)
[1] Sally Hansen - cardinal, Love & Beauty - Mint (green glimmer), Ruby Kisses - french white, Ruby Kisses - black eutopia.
[2] Kiss - blue striper, Kiss - gold glitter striper, Ruby Kisses - black eutopia
[3] Orly - bus stop crimson,  Ruby Kisses - french white, NYC - starry silver glitter (#105)
[4] Ruby Kisses - french white, Ruby Kisses - black eutopia, L.A. Girls Flare - hunter green
last but not least...
[5] Sally Hansen - cardinal, Kiss - blue striper

All topped off with a nice HEALTHY coat of Seche VITE - quick dry top coat!  (the best!!!)

phew! well, i look froward to seeing the rest of the snowman challenge designs from the other ladies participating, and I hope you enjoyed mine too! :)

fun with the french

here are four alternatives to the french manicure. i chose black, white and silver for my trials in 4 different styles. I think this revamping of an old favorite can prove to be as appropriate  as the accentuated natural look of the classic french. subtle, elegant, feminine and/or playful except with a  more modern spin on it.

1. top left- classic black.
2. top right. the black and white stripe
3. bottom left black with ribbon of white dots
4. bottom right silver and black with rhinestone cabochon
